On this day (May 24th) ten years ago (2004), at 12:30 AM, the very first episode of Detective Conan aired on American televisions as “Case Closed.” Happy tenth birthday, Conan! Celebrating a franchise’s anniversary is a little bittersweet when the franchise you’re celebrating is pretty much dead in America, but I still wanted to throw a little party. I thought about typing up a little retrospective about the series’ ten years in America, but I decided that a recap of things we already know wouldn’t have been very interesting. Instead, I decided to write about a few obscure Case Closed things you might not have ever heard about.
First, check out Case Closed 101, a “special preview” of the series starring Colleen Clinkenbeard that was only released on now-rare promotional DVDs in 2006. It includes a summary of the proceedings along with my own personal thoughts.
After that, jump over to Conan On Conan: “Pierre Bernard’s Recliner Of Rage,” where I talk about the series’ short appearance on Late Night With Conan O’Brien. It’s about as strange as it sounds.
I hope you guys enjoy them! More comparisons are on the way! Here’s to another ten years! I guess? If something exciting actually happens?
